What if…

What if there was a secret left-wing organization

dedicated to electing a liberal American as Pope – by

any means whatsoever. Someone who would reform the

Roman Catholic Church in ways not even Martin Luther

envisioned?

Enter DEUS IRAE a secret, well-funded society with

tentacles everywhere. The book starts with a low profile

Boston cardinal, then it is on to Peru, Ghana, Syria, the

Vatican (natch), Lourdes,France, Manila, Vancouver and

Rivière du Loup, Québec (plus various US locations) to get

a flavor of how what happens in Rome affects ordinary

people – and how ordinary people can be game changers.

Yes, there are assassinations, money-laundering scandals,

murder, kidnapping and a last-page cliffhanger (sequel

maybe?). This book is sure to irritate conservative

Catholics and Right-to-Lifers. Maybe the Pope will

condemn it (a guaranteed sales booster).

THE AMERICAN POPE is a serious book – maybe it will give

ideas to those beleaguered nuns and divorced/shunned

Catholics… though the tongue-in-cheek humor of

Lawrence Block is born again in this novel.

AS SEEN ON YOUTUBE Here’s that captivating mini-video introducing The American Pope via that most ubiquitous of social media. A simple premise, with appropriate background music. Name that tune.

About the Author

An allegedly accomplished musician and photographer, author Tim O’Toole is a retired New York State bureaucrat, who served seven governors (and farl too many commissioners). His previous literary efforts include periodic columns for the Albany Times-Union, and other in-house satirical jabs at government. His earlier works include SULLIVAN'S TRAVELS - a satirical science fiction trilogy about a politically correct planet. He has been likened to Jonathan Swift and is fond of puns, alliteration and honest politicians. He favors long sentences with parentheses and short chapters to make up the difference. He firmly believes footnotes need not be restricted to history books and research journals. He firmly believes a few other things, but that is another story. An apprentice pundit - working on his professional curmudgeon certificate, samples of O'Toole's shorter works are available at www.1ceman.com or www.timotoole.org.
